High Point History

Roswell Rd at Belle Isle was once known as “Pole Town,” widely understood to be because were poles laid in the ground to allow wagons through.

About a hundred years ago the High Point neighborhood was largely farms and summer estates for city folk that served as hunting lodges in the winter.

The Butler House, or Belle Manor as it is often called, is one of the last remaining stately homes on Roswell Road. Built in the 1920s, the home recalls the Greek Revival architecture associated with antebellum Georgia. The yard includes large trees and heirloom plants. Situated at 5229 Roswell Road, the home is just north of the historic communities of Pole Town and Oak Shade.
